Women in Engineering Day supported by ICOM
22nd Jun 2016
Only 9% of the engineering workforce is female, with 64% of employers reporting that they are struggling to fill engineering posts* so on the 23rd June 2016, Women in Engineering Day, the Industrial & Commercial Energy Association, ICOM will be calling on the industrial and commercial heating industry to promote opportunities for women.
Tahsina Khan, Support Engineer at ICOM said “The UK has the lowest percentage of female engineering professionals in Europe. Engineering isn’t always seen as a ‘sector of choice’ for young people, particularly girls. If our industry is to continue to prosper then we must take active steps to address the gender imbalance that currently exists and work harder to encourage girls into engineering careers.
I chose engineering and I have never looked back, I want to tell girls and young women who are maybe considering what career they want to pursue that engineering can be both rewarding and fulfilling.”
National Women in Engineering Day (#NWED2016) is now an International awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available to girls in the engineering industry. Visit http://www.nwed.org.uk/#sthash.ZUdqgfCQ.dpuf
