They think it’s all over

21st Dec 2020

Well, we are all going to remember 2020 for years to come. And like most people, I’ll be glad to see the back of it.

It has been a tough year for our members but we have come through it together. We have a new way of working, who would have thought the most common phrase of the year would be “you’re on mute still”? Or that for several weeks in the Spring, we would stand outside banging saucepans or ringing bells, cheering key workers? Despite all the gloom, and there’s been plenty, bright moments like this have cheered us up.

Our team has sought to deliver the best service to you, our members, over the past 12 months, and on the whole we’ve witnessed some great results. Our membership grew in numbers throughout 2020, to hit over 300. That’s a record for us. Another trade association, the Energy Services and Technologies Association (ESTA) joins us from the 1st January 2021, helping to extend our influence within the industry. And what was especially pleasing this year, was to see the positive responses in our annual membership survey. We monitor three key indicators; all saw noticeable increases – so thank you.

As we wind-down for the festive period, I am acutely aware that for many members their work continues – in particular those who manage the gas networks with their emergency staff all prepared to jump into action should the need arise when the rest of us are enjoying Christmas (albeit in unusual times).

On behalf of EUA and all its staff, can I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and let’s be honest, say goodbye to 2020 – they think it’s all over, it is now.

Mike Foster

EUA's Chief Executive
