Rachel Reeves MP, Chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee has been announced as the keynote speaker at this year’s prestigious Gas Industry Awards and Gala lunch, taking place in London on 15th May. The event offers the opportunity to celebrate the very best of the industry; the high standards upheld and the innovation which enables gas to be at the forefront of tackling the energy trilemma.

Organised by the Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA) and the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM), the Gas Awards, held at the London Hilton, Park Lane, provide the chance to network with over 600 senior industry delegates, enjoy a drinks reception followed by a three-course sit down meal, as well as an address from the prolific keynote speaker, Rachel Reeves MP.

Having been elected as Member of Parliament in May 2010, Rachel Reeves previously worked as an economist at the Bank of England, The British Embassy in Washington DC, and also at Halifax Bank of Scotland. Between 2010 – 2015, she served on the opposition front bench as Shadow Pensions Minister, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. Following that, Reeves joined the Treasury Select Committee in 2015 and was elected Chair of BEIS in July last year.

Mike Foster, Chief Executive of EUA said “We are delighted that Rachel Reeves MP has agreed to speak at our event. The role of gas in our energy future looks bright; decarbonising the grid and facilitating gas grid connections can both tackle fuel poverty, and enable us to meet fast approaching carbon budgets - I know that attendees will be keen to hear Rachel Reeves’ views on all things gas.”

Sheila Lauchlan, President of IGEM, said: Securing a leading and prominent figure to speak at our industry awards again demonstrates their status and I would like to thank Rachel Reeves MP for her participation at what promises to be an exciting event. “
