ICOM Charity Challenge £2017 is more than halfway there
15th Mar 2017
The Industrial and Commercial Energy Association (ICOM) £2017 Challenge has reached more than halfway to target, raising over £1300 with gift aid for CRASH, the construction industry’s charity that assists homeless and hospice charities with construction related projects.
The ICOM & CRASH £2017 Challenge has taken place throughout January and February and saw teams of up to 4 virtually race, for 90 miles, raising money as they go. Teams joining the challenge are competing to raise the most money and complete the journey by the most unusual method.
Team Strebel Ltd; Stephen Blunsten, Andy Devlin, Steve Baker and Peter Spurway have raised over £730. Their chosen challenge was to complete the Yorkshire 3 peaks in just one day. This meant, each team member covered 24 miles, which includes a 5,200ft (1,585m) of ascent! Steve Bakers’ 15 year old son; Sam Baker joined in the challenge as the designated photographer.
Steve Baker, Technical & Project Engineers Supervisor at Strebel said, “We knew this was going to be a real challenge for us as we are not the fittest or youngest. It's was cold, wet, windy and very hard. But this was only for one day – a taster of what some homeless people must go through every day of their lives – even during Christmas and the winter months. So this was one way we could help with that struggle.”
Ross Anderson, Director at ICOM said “ICOM, together with its members really believe in the work that CRASH do, and members have been very supportive and generous towards the challenge to raise £2017. This has been a great way to join forces and raise money for an exceptional charity whilst also having fun.”
There will be recognition at the ICOM Annual Lunch on Wednesday 7th June 2017, for the team which raises the most amount of money and the one with the most unusual way of covering the miles.”
