‘Get rid of PAS2030 & MCS’ says HHIC

21st Jul 2015

“Now is the time to get rid of PAS2030 & MCS” says Stewart Clements, Director at the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council, HHIC following the launch by the Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) of the Red Tape review within the energy sector.

Mr. Clements continued, “The Government accreditation schemes - PAS2030 and MCS are bureaucratic, expensive and time consuming for the vast majority of heating installers. There are over 122,000 gas safe registered engineers in the UK and yet only a tiny handful have registered with either of these schemes.

The heating industry is already heavily regulated, gas engineers are required to have the necessary skill and competency qualifications and be registered with Gas Safe Register. Installers also use Benchmark, a scheme that operates with the support of boiler manufacturers and also provides a checklist for a safe and reliable installation.

BIS would do well to get rid of PAS2030 & MSC as soon as possible.”
