Fast tracking shale is a sensible step - energy security is a problem for today, not tomorrow.

Shale gas planning applications will be fast-tracked through a new, dedicated planning process, under measures announced today (13 August 2015).
Amber Rudd and Greg Clark today announced plans that will ensure local people have a strong say over the development of shale exploration in their area – but will ensure communities and the industry benefit from a swift process for developing safe and suitable new sites.
Isaac Occhipinti , Head of External Affairs, EUA said;
“The Energy and Utilities Alliance have been a supporter of the exploration of shale gas extraction for some years now. Today’s announcement is a positive step in the right direction.
According to DECC’s own figures, the UK holds the equivalent of 14 days of gas supply compared to 69 days of supply in Germany, 87 in France and 66 in the US. Energy security is a problem for today, not tomorrow, next week, month or year. Plans for swifter decision making are welcomed by EUA.
Exploiting shale gas reserves will add a new dimension to the UK’s energy mix, helping to secure our energy supply and reduce the impact that external influences like the current political unrest in the Ukraine can have.
It is anticipated that over 64,000 new jobs will be created right across the supply chain and the tax revenues gained can be invested in upgrading domestic properties to make them as energy efficient as possible – helping to deliver a low carbon future. The additional gas supply will also have a major impact on prices helping to reduce the fluctuations that are currently experienced”
