EUA responds to the CMA preliminary findings report
7th Jul 2015
Responding to the summary of findings into the UK energy markets published today by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Mike Foster, Chief Executive of the Energy and Utilities Alliance said;
“I was pleased to see recognition in the CMA report that there have been no significant security of supply incidents in recent years, emissions from electricity and gas have reduced and renewable deployment has increased.
The report also recognises the role of the smart meters programme, in delivering understanding of energy use to the consumer, this will not only enable them to make an informed decision about whether to switch or not to switch, it will also lead to greater understanding of the need for energy efficiency to permanently keep bills down.
The CMA has provided the industry with feedback that it can work with, whilst emphasising the need for the right supporting regulation, that doesn’t get in the way of the energy industry doing a great job.”
