Appointment of NMi as the SMDA Test House

4th Jan 2017

The SMDA Scheme Operator (SO) is delighted to announce the appointment of NMi Certin B.V. to provide the testing services for the Smart Metering Device Assurance (SMDA) scheme. SMDA is an independent assurance scheme to encompass interoperability and interchangeability testing for smart metering equipment. This scheme will provide assurance to consumers, suppliers and financiers that smart metering equipment will work effectively in a smart environment. Gemserv was appointed as the SMDA SO in January 2015 following a competitive tender.

NMi Certin B.V. is an internationally recognised test house and with an excellent reputation for independent testing and certification across a range of industries. For delivering the SMDA testing services to GB market, NMi will be working with Critical Software – a system, software and data engineering company who are already well established in the GB smart metering space.

David Thorne, Gemserv’s Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to welcome NMi to the delivery consortium for the SMDA scheme. In our role as the SMDA Scheme Operator, we have undertaken an extensive and robust procurement process to ensure that the best outcome is delivered to the industry. We are very much looking forward to working with NMi and Critical Software over the next few years to offer the SMDA assurance service to the industry.”

Over the coming months, the SO will be working with NMi to complete the necessary readiness activities with a view to commence testing in early Q2 of 2017.
Rosie McGlynn, the Chair of the SMDA Co, responded: “SMDA Co. is very pleased with the appointment of NMi as the Scheme’s Test House, which marks a significant milestone on the road to the launch of the SMDA scheme’s testing services. The focus now is on completing the necessary readiness activities so that the SMDA assurance services can be provided to the industry in support of the mass roll-out of smart meters and related devices.
